Wigtown & Bladnoch

Match Information

Saints return to league action this weekend as we host Wigtown & Bladnoch.

It’s our first league match in 2022 after postponements against Creetown & Mid-Annandalee.

Saints will be looking to bounce back after the 6-1 loss to Queen of the South in the SCFA Challenge Cup on Tuesday night. Three points in this fixture would restore the 4-point lead at the top of the table for St Cuthbert Wanderers.

Wigtown & Bladnoch lost their only game of 2022 last weekend in a 5-0 loss to Threave Rovers. They sit 9 points adrift at the bottom of the table but have 2 games in hand on 16th placed Mid-Annandale.

Previous Meeting

Saints faced this weekend’s opponents twice in two weeks, both at Trammondford Park, back in September. The league fixture ended 8-1 to Saints, then we ensured our progression to the Second Round of the Scottish Cup with an 8-0 win in the second meeting. You can see highlights of the cup win below.

Squad details

Saints have no injury concerns or players unavailable heading into the weekend.

Pre-Match Comments

I’m expecting us to bounce back from Tuesday. It was a difficult night, but there were positives for us to take.

We’ve had a few good results against Wigtown already this season, I’ve challenged the boys to match the levels we set in those games. It’s important we get back on track after the learning curve on from the Queens game, with the derby next weekend.

It’s our last home match for a couple of months, which is a shame, but we’ve had a good away record this season. Hopefully we’ll give the fans one last hurrah before we’re back at St Mary’s in mid-March.
