Saints lost by the odd goal in their rearranged preseason friendly versus Newton Stewart.

The visitors opened the scoring in the opening minutes when a ball floated to the back post was headed in past Jake Gemmell in the Saints goal.

Despite the early goal, Saints created plenty of goalscoring opportunities but couldn’t convert and went in 1-0 down at half-time.

Newton Stewart started the second half in the same manner as the first, striking the bar from a free kick before doubling their advantage as an error in the Saints box left a simple tap-in.

Saints tired in the second half but ten minutes from time, finally got on the scoresheet, Elliot Harris’s cross was deftly flicked on by one of our trialists and the move was finished by Ross Hunter.

Saints pushed on looking for an equaliser but couldn’t find a way through before the full time whistle.
