Threave Rovers v Saints
Saints progressed to the Haig Gordon Semi Finals last night with a 4-2 win at Meadow Park.
A brace for Ross Hunter as well as goals from David Taylor and Russell Williamson saw Saints through to the next round where we’ll face Caledonian Braves.
The first half was a scrappy affair, Hunter opening the scoring by charging down the Threave keeper and turning in the loose ball before the home side struck back after a scramble in the box.
Two for Saints in the first ten minutes of the second half though brought breathing room.
First David Taylor scored his first for the club as he headed home a Kelly free kick. Then Hunter was on hand to ensure Milligan’s blocked shot crossed the goal line with a cheeky backheel.
Threave halved the deficit with twenty minutes to go but Saints survived the late scare and made sure of semi-final progression late on. Williamson’s strike from the edge of the box catching the keeper off-guard and restored the 2-goal lead.
A better second half again for Saints. We’re back at Meadow Park again on Saturday for the second half of the double header in the SSFL League Cup.
